About Alex Vipurs
"I have been surrounded by animals from a young age. As a child I grew up with several dogs in our family home as my parents were involved with the breeding and fostering of Labradors for Guide Dogs for the Blind. We had at least 6 dogs in our home and often puppies too! A close family friend also had a farm where up until my late teenage years we would spend every weekend and school holiday. This gave me the opportunity to learn to care for a variety of farm animals including pigs, sheep, cattle, chickens and ducks. I have also always loved horse riding and have both loaned and owned my own horses.
After university I began a career in teaching and rehomed a retired military Labrador called Sparky. He was quite a nervous dog and required lots of patience and understanding. Over the years we completed the National Three Peaks together and the Cleveland Way National Trail together. I have always enjoyed walking and love being out in the fresh air every day.
In 2015 I became involved with dog rescue and last year I fostered and helped to rehome twenty dogs of all shapes, sizes and temperaments. I loved looking after the dogs, many of whom were extremely nervous when they arrived.
After they had been adopted, lots of the owners asked if they could bring their dogs back to me when they went on holiday. Although I had enjoyed teaching for 11 years, I was ready for a change and I knew that I wanted my future to involve animal care. Scarborough Pet Sitters has meant that I can now spend my day caring for customers wonderful and precious pets, treating them with the same level of love and care that I would treat my own animals. Although I no longer foster rescue dogs, I am lucky to have been able to combine my passion with a career. I look forward to meeting new customers in 2017."
